We are interested in unusual locations Georg declares shaking with anger, his eyes fixed on a spot somewhere on Andreas’ forehead. Right, Andreas mumbles, searching the inside of his scull, that on this day feels particularily hollow, for a sentence that might further there cause, that is, to elucidate the concept that they have in their head, but struggle to formulate in a clear and concise manner. Andreas has attempted for years to come up with a method that will allow him to write applications in which his artistic concepts come across clearly, so much so that tiny wringles have begun appearing on his forehead, corporeal expressions of his so far futile mental efforts.

Georg has lost all his hair and Andreas’ forehead has collapsed into a wrinkled mess, such are their mental exertions. Right, Andreas mumbles, that’s right; searching for sentences that might express a properable path forward. Georg, shaking with anger, declares: We are interested in Unusual locations! They both know of the impending compromise, that they will write things they are reluctant to write. They will have to write that their performative reading series is interested in uprooting the conventions that govern performer and audience, conventions expressed in the expectations of both the performer and their audience. They might even have to give a historical context for how these conventions have come to be.
Cruel & Unusual is an ongoing performative reading series organized by Georg Thanner and Andreas Lorck-Schierning. We host our readings in funny and or strange locations such as: Western bars, mosquito infested river banks, other kinds of bars, veritable castles etc.
